How to find when SQL Server was last started?

When ever SQL Server is (re)started ‘TempDB’ gets recreated. So the below query should give us the time of when ‘SQL Server’ was last started.

Select create_date from sys.databases where [name] = 'tempdb'

When a SQL Server starts all the tasks which it initiates makes an entry in sysprocesses table with its ‘login time’. That said, all we need to do is find the least login_time which has got recorded in that table!

1. Select min(login_time) from master.dbo.sysprocesses
OR
2. Select login_time from master.dbo.sysprocesses where spid = 1
OR
3. Select login_time from sys.dm_exec_sessions where session_id = 1

Checking the creation date of TEMPDB will also do the trick. But that's not a guaranteed method.

Bcoz the PSS while troubleshooting some tempdb issues could have used T3609 to recover tempdb instead of recreating it.

So the best method and the only method to trust 100% is to check the time in sysprocesses as I have shown in my blog post.

What should one look @ while buying a land in chennai?

Offlate people have started thinking about investing their money in lands. I too think that to be a wise decision only! Tips for attracting more comments …

After a long silence I am blogging regularly for almost past 2 months now. Btw, I use “ eXtreme Tracking ” to track the traffic into my blog. When I check the summary of those results I am really happy to know that in the past 231 days I have got 6711 unique visitors . Out of which last month I have attracted 1362 unique visitors and this month (as of today 7 PM) there are 1733 unique visitors. I think this to be a good count. I want to reiterate that out of 231 days I have seriously blogged for couple of months only. Ok with that information, I want to talk about the problem in hand. Only recently I started thinking “dude, you are getting decent amount of readers on a daily basis. But then you aren’t getting much feedback from them.
